What Is a Refundable Airline Ticket?
This is extremely embarrassing, but because it’s Thanksgiving and I’m in a good mood from being around family and friends, I’ll admit it. Before starting The Sky Key with Jacob, I didn’t know what a refundable airline ticket was. Two things:
1) If it wasn’t obvious, Jacob is the travel guru on our team,
2) Refundable tickets are confusing.
So, what is a refundable ticket? Say you decide to book a flight to Detroit Michigan so you can see the greatest college football team in history beat Ohio State. You pay $500 for this ticket but right before you click pay, you get asked if you want to pay an additional $100 fee to make the ticket refundable.
If you pay the extra $100 to make your ticket refundable, you will get your entire $500 ticket deposited back into your bank account if Ohio State backs out of the game and you need to cancel your trip. In other words, you will have an extra $500 to buy your fellow Michigan Wolverines celebratory shots at the bar later.
If you don’t pay the extra $100 and your ticket is considered non-refundable, you will get your $500 ticket deposited back into your airline account. In other words, you won’t be able to buy your fellow Michigan Wolverines shots at the bar later. But, you will be able to use the money to book another trip on that airline.
Happy Thanksgiving (& Go Blue!)
