The Most Price Drops Recorded For A Flight

Sky Key sees about 50% of flights dropping in price after booking. While a flight’s price is not guaranteed to go down, if you book 10 flights in a year, 5 are expected to have price drops after booking.

Some flights may only drop in price one time after booking, others will drop many times. So what is the most price drops Sky Key has ever recorded for a single flight? The answer may surprise you.

    The airline ticket

In August 2024, a customer uploaded their ticket to Sky Key. The ticket was a round trip flight from Fresno, California (FAT) to Cancun (CUN) for $1,149.

    The first price drop

Just one week after being uploaded, Sky Key detected a lower price for the exact same ticket. The ticket had dropped from $1,149 to $1,130 or by $19.

Nothing seemed abnormal about this flight. While price drops can be difficult to predict (read more here about what affects airline ticket prices), it’s not uncommon for a ticket price to drop one week after being uploaded to Sky Key. We see ticket prices dropping anywhere from a few hours after being booked, to a few hours before take off.

    Subsequent price drops

One day after the first price drop, Sky Key detected a new lower price for the exact same ticket. This time, the ticket had dropped from $1,130 to $1,096.08 or by $33.92.

Again, this wasn’t surprising. Many tickets uploaded to Sky Key drop multiple times after booking. When this happens, Sky Key continues to automatically save you money.

However, what was different about this flight was how many price drops came after this.

The ticket price continued to drop another 19 times from $1,096.08 to $761.71.

    The result

Because this customer uploaded their ticket to Sky Key, they were able to capitalize on 21 total price drops after they booked their ticket and saved $334.37. This $334.37 in savings was in the form of a future flight credit that the customer could use to offset the cost of their next flight.
