    June 2024 Update

Over the last month we have seen some EXTREME savings opportunities amongst our Sky Key Friends.

In this note, I want to tell you about one of them in particular which came on an international business class points booking.

    But first, a side bar…

While airline points and miles can be somewhat ambiguous in terms of how much those points and miles are worth in “dollar” terms, you should reasonably expect to achieve a minimum of 1 cent per point worth of value when using points and miles with most major US airlines. Explained: 100,000 airline points or miles should get you the equivalent of a $1,000 ticket, at bare minimum. If it doesn’t, I would strongly advise against using points for that flight, as I would tell you that’s usually a “bad” deal.

Frankly, if I am comparing a flight’s points price vs. its cash price, I will almost never use points unless I can get at minimum 1.5 cents per point worth of value. In most cases, I am really looking for a minimum of 2 cents per point worth of value. Explained: if a flight I want to book costs $1,000 in cash, I will only consider using points/miles for that ticket if I can get it for 75,000 points or less. And in most cases, I am really looking to use points if I can get it for 50,000 points or less.

Why did I just try to take you down the points and miles rabbit hole? To highlight just how massive of an opportunity we saw last month on a points/miles flight tracked through The Sky Key.

This specific international business class flight was booked at 415,000 points only to see it drop to 153,000 points a couple of days later. Could you imagine buying something for $4,150 only to find out that you could buy it at $1,530 two days later?!

In a nutshell, this is exactly why we created The Sky Key. If you pay 415,000 points for a flight and it goes down to 153,000 points, the airline will (in the vast majority of cases) quite literally let you get the difference of 262,000 points ($2,620 of value, minimum) deposited back into your account to use for another flight later. The only catch? They won’t do it for you automatically “just for fun” or “to be nice”. You have to initiate it from your account. But first you have to know when it goes lower. And you can thank The Sky Key for that knowledge. 😉

As always, thank you for being a part of this journey, and Happy Flying!
