When do flight prices go down?
Googling this question or asking ChatGPT will tell you flight prices go down 1-3 months before departure.
This isn’t really an answer though- certainly not a useful answer. If you want to pay the lowest price for a flight, should you wait until 3 months before departure to book your flight, or wait until 1 month before departure?
The harsh truth about when flight prices go down
The harsh truth is that no one really knows when flight prices will go down (outside of revenue management departments at the airlines). Although airline prices are based on supply and demand, that doesn’t make them any easier to predict. Stock prices are also based on supply and demand and we all know how good Wall Street professionals are at predicting those…
Anyway, why would a hard and fast rule about airlines prices exist? If there was one, everyone would just wait until the optimal time to book their flight, airlines would notice this, and then adjust their pricing algorithms to correct for this.
When should I book my flight to save the most money?
Now. Book your flight as soon as you know your travel plans and then upload your ticket to Sky Key to start saving money.
What? Yes- you read that correctly. Sky Key will save you money when the price of your ticket drops after you book it. You no longer have to play the guessing game of when your flight’s price will go down… You can just book your flight, upload your ticket to Sky Key, and save when the price drops.
About 50% of the time, your airline ticket will go down in price after you book it by about $120. When this happens, Sky Key will automatically claim your savings. So instead of losing $120 because you booked your ticket at the “wrong” time, Sky Key will get you these savings back.
I’m not joking. If you want to learn more, read about how Sky Key saved me $51 on my Southwest flight to Texas or learn how Sky Key helped a customer capitalize on 21 price drops on a single flight.
Sky Key sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch?
We get asked this question A LOT and the truth is, there is no catch to using Sky Key. We only win if you win. Here’s the full picture of a customer’s savings journey on Sky Key:
- A customer books their flight directly through the airline (please avoid booking your flight through an online travel agency. Sky Key will not be able to save you money on these flights and you lose a lot of benefits that you get by booking directly through the airline like complimentary seat upgrades)
- The customer uploads their ticket to Sky Key. Either automatically through Sky Key Email Sync or entering their ticket data manually
- If Sky Key finds a lower price, it automatically saves you money. Sky Key saves customers money on both refundable AND non-refundable tickets
- When the customer’s flight departs, Sky Key charges the customer’s card for 25% of the savings amount. If Sky Key saved the customer $100, Sky Key charges their credit card for $25
It’s that simple- Sky Key only makes money if we save you money.
